අම්බලන්ගොඩ මහජන පුස්තකාලයීය මාර්ගගත සුචිය වෙත සාදරයෙන් පිළිගනිමු
වසර හතලිහකට අධික කාලයකට පෙර සිටම පුස්තකාල සම්ප්‍රදායකට උරුමකම් කියූ දකුණු ලක අම්බලන්ගොඩ කළා පුරවරයේ බුද්ධිමතුන්ට තෝ තැන්නක් බදු අම්බලන්ගොඩ නගර සභා මහජන පුස්තකාලය එවකට පැවති නගර සභාවේ විශේෂ කොමසාරිස් එස්. ඩී. සිරිසේන මහතා විසින් 1976 පෙබරවාරි 20 දින මෙම පුස්තකාලය ආරම්භ කරන ලදි. අම්බලන්ගොඩ නගර දැනුම කේන්ද්‍රය වශයෙන් හඳුනාගත් මෙම පුස්තකාලය කාලීන අවශ්‍යතාවයක් ලෙස සංවර්ධනය කිරීමේ අරමුණින් 2013 ඔත්තෝබර් මස 15 දින ගරු නගරාධිපති නීතිඥ ඇම්. ඩබ්. අරුණ ප්‍රදීප් මහතගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණය යටතේ විද්‍යුත් පුස්තකාලය ආරම්භ කරන ලදි.
දැනට මෙම පුස්තකාලයේ 31662 පමණ පොත් සංඛ්‍යාවක් පවතින අතර එසේම පාඨකයන් 8205 පමණ ප්‍රමාණයක් ප්‍ර කාල සාමාජිකත්වය පුස්තකාල සාමාජිකත්වය දරනු ලැබේ.
ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මංඩලය මගින් පවත්වන ලද තරඟ අතරින් විශිෂ්ඨ අන්දමින් සංරක්ෂණ කටයුතු සිදු කරන ලද මහජන පුස්තකාල තේරීමේ තරඟයෙන් ප්‍රථම ස්ථානය 2014 , 2015 , 2016, 2017, 2018 යන වර්ෂ වලදී හිමිකර ගන්නා ලදි. ජාතික කියවීම් මාසයේ ඵලදායිතා වැඩසටහන් ඉටු කිරීම වෙනුවෙන් 2013, 2014 වර්ෂ වලදී සම්මාන හිමිකර ගන්නා ලදි.
2021 වර්ෂයේ, ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණ නියෝජිතායතනය (ICTA) හා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මණ්ඩලය හා එක්ව “ඩිජිටල් පුස්තකාල ව්‍යාපෘතිය” හරහා යාවත්කාලීන සංස්කරණ මුහුණුවරකින් යුත් පූර්ණ පුස්තකාල ස්වයංක්‍රීය පද්ධතියක් ද නවීන අංගෝපාංගයන් හා සේවාවන්ගෙන් ද සපිරි නව තාක්ෂණික අත්දැකිමක් සඳහා දොරටු විවර කර ඇත.
Ambalangoda Municipal Council Public Library was established on February 20, 1978. by the then Special Commissioner of the Ambalangoda Municipal Council, Mr. H.D.Sirisena.
The Ambalangoda Public Library is recognized as the Knowledge Center of the City of Ambalangoda, E – Library Fascility was launched in the this library on 15th October 2013 by under the leadership of Hon Chairman Mr. Aruna Pradeep of Ambalangoda Urban Council.
Ambalangoda Public Library is currently a Grade II Library. Creating a knowledge society through the protection of the intellectual heritage of the people of Ambalangoda, development of public libraries and information systems, utilization of ICT for an effective library service, provision of bibliography services and assist in book publishing our mission is to be a knowledge hub for the public and to provide excellent library services to all.
In 2021, The Digital Libraries Project was implemented at this public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board by providing an advanced and updated library automation system and introduced modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country.
The library currently has 31662 books and about 8205 readers.
Out of the competitions conducted by the National Library and Documentation Services Board, the first place was won in the year 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 in the competition for the selection of public libraries which carried out excellent conservation activities. Received awards in 2013 and 2014 for performing productivity programs during National Reading Month.
In 2021, The Digital Libraries Project was implemented at this public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board by providing an advanced and updated library automation system and introduced modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country. Presently the library is fully equipped with modern electronic devices to provide digital library services to the public. Users can easily search, find, locate and hold required books through this Online Public Access Catalogue.
